Hand Embroidered Shipibo Women's Dress

In the Shipibo language, this is called a Chitonti, the traditional dress of Shipibo women. They often hand-embroider their own Chitontis, saving highly detailed pieces like this for special occasions because of the immense time required to create them.

This specific Chitonti is one of the most intricate I have ever seen. While most feature a single large Maya Kené (curved design) with minimal borders, this one has two completely different Maya Kené designs on each side, separated by incredibly detailed borders.

To top it off, this was made by the mother of the well-known Shipibo singer Victor Yui. She is also an Ayahuasca shaman, and this masterpiece represents three months of her dedicated work.
